Jackman On Wolverine: The Movie! Exclusive: Will there be an X4? Source: Empire
On the London leg of the X-Men: The Last Stand press tour today, the unfeasibly lovely pair that are Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry dropped a few tidbits about the chance of further instalments from our favourite X-gened mutants - notably the news that Wolverine is currently planned as a prequel.
First of all, Jackman talked about the proposed Wolverine spin-off film…
“I can tell you that David Benioff had written two drafts. He’s a fantastic writer and a huge, passionate fan. I know that fans of Wolverine or X-men will be excited about the direction it’s going. It’s a prequel, at present, but we’re not finished writing so it’s not finalised – and even if it was, I wouldn’t tell you!”
But is he up for a fourth X-film proper?
“I think that the studio always planned this to be the end. It’s definitely the biggest in every way and it feels like a fitting end to the trilogy. There may be more, but I think everyone involved…everyone came back, and none of the actors came back thinking that they were gratuitously making a buck and the studio were just trotting these things out. I feel like the script we had at the beginning of this was the best of the three, and that’s why everyone signed on. So another one wouldn’t happen unless there was a genuine feeling that we had another story to tell that was evolving the story. I think we’re all proud of what we’ve created, so if there is another one, it won’t be a cash-in or a Gloria Swanson moment of ‘I’ve got to get back in the game’.”
Halle Berry, in contrast, is all in favour of an X-Men 4. “There’s no chance of a Storm spin-off, not with me anyway! Hugh and I differ on this. I think there could be another X-Men movie. The fans want it and love it, and the series is so rich with so many stories and characters, it could go on and on almost like a Bond movie. But if not, I feel confident that Hugh’s movie will go, no matter what, and I’ll maybe get to do a fly-by!”
Hmm – combined with Patrick Stewart’s recent pro-sequel comments here, it looks like there might be life in the old mutants yet. Meanwhile, for more from the pair, and on Jackman’s hopes to make a musical Socrates biopic, check back next week.

everyone may be talking about the new superman movie as if it the holy grail in comic books, and to be fair he IS the ultimate superhero, but F**k is he boring!!! The real fans know that the X-Men is where its all at!!! it would truly be a sin for the series not to continue, considering all the big name characters that have yet to be used such as gambit, Jubilee, Alpha, The Blob, Abyss, Apocalypse, the list goes on and on!!! with such adverse mutants in the X-men universe it really could be the ... I'm a big fan of the first 2 movies. I thought Bryan Singer did a great job on both. From the opening of X-Men 1 with a young Magneto discovering his powers in a Nazi concentration camp (which is still a very powerful scene-damn ITV1 for cutting it to shreds) to the sight of the Phoenix underwater in X2, I feel he knocked the ball out of the park. Once Fox had him removed from the lot for wanting to work on X3 the way he had originally set out, I've always felt a sense of doom about X3. The choi... Read More
I'd love to see a Deadpool movie or even an X-Force movie featuring Deadpool. Imagine Nathan Fillion as Cable and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, It would be like a 2 Guys and a Girl reunion! ... Read More
AHOY, PEEPS, Mark here. I loved the first two X movies. I look forward to X3. I see it next monday. To say that this is the last one, Is absolutely ludicrous and ridiculous. This farnchise is highly successful 4 20th Century Fox. I cannot nor do I believe that if this is one of or the biggest movie of the summer that FOX will just do a Wolverine film and a Magneto film. That is so much material do at least five more films. Besides you don/t have to have any one from these films to be in another... Read More
oo yeah a deadpool spinoff (being my fav character after batman) or perhaps bring in cable and then you can have links with jean and scott summers. If they did more sequels, itd be cool to see the apocalypse stories or introduce the savage lands. britespark mentioned a gen x movie which would be cool, despite the tv series/movie dieing a horrible death! ... What? You mean that the first 2 (and from what I'm guessing the 3rd) didn't have enough Wolverine so he's getting a whole movie to himself? The problem with the x movies - as much as I loved them - is the fact that it's nothing but Wolverine & Friends...Cyclops has serious been underused, they had a tendency to incapacitate Prof X and not show why he's the baddest mutant in the world and Storm really never figures that much. Sure a Wolvie film might be good but it's not exactly something we... Read More
I agree that there could be more X-MEN movies, but in all honesty, I think it will decide on how this one pans out, and what options they are left with to make others, fair enough they could do these mentioned spin offs on the key characters, but there are so many characters that have been getting little focus and I only hope the third outing will focus on the ones we are yet to see the full potential of... Collossus being one... ... Read More
I'm keeping everything crossed that X3 turns out as good as I hope it is and I think a Wolverine spinoff sounds great - explore more of his backstory and maybe include other characters we've not seen yet (maybe Gambit or Deadpool). ... Read More
