Patrick Stewart's Last Stand
Exclusive: Professor X on X3...and 4?

As X3 excitement reaches vertiginous levels in the run up to release, Patrick Stewart has broken the production's vow of silence to shed a (very faint) beam of light on production and reveals what's in store for mutant fans.

“Expect more of the same, only strong with more emotions,” says Stewart, aka Professor X. “We’re going to be faced with some real tragedy in this movie and it will bring to a climax the great philosophical and physical war between Charles Xavier and Magneto.” And what about that high-profile funeral we’ve been hearing talk of? “It’s very personal to me,” Stewart says mysteriously. So who is it then? Moira McTaggert, his girlfriend in the comics? Magneto? Or Xavier himself? Alas, he's not telling.

Speaking at the launch of the Take A Stand anti-bullying campaign in association with Charity of the Year Beat Bullying, Stewart said he wasn’t convinced that X3 would be the franchise’s own last stand. “When it comes to it you can never say it’s the last because a lot of it is about economic drive. The first two films were among the most successful films ever, if the third would continues that theme, I would imagine there’s a strong possibility that within a short while a fourth one might be in the planning.”

Would he come back? “Oh yes! This is a smashing world to inhabit every few years. I like my character very much, he’s an admirable character. I love the people that I’m working with – Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, it could be worse!”

Sadly, chances of Jean-Luc Picard making an appearance in JJ Abrams’ planned Star Trek film look slim: “I’d have to think very hard about it,” he grinned, “I’ve actually hung up my space suit.”

RE: why the negative karma folks?
Anyone considered that this funeral might be right at the start? Jean Grey?   Admittedly, it'd be a letdown... More

L: doctorolorinbats1975 Ratner loves X-Men as it is and certainly it is his big-budget debut: don't worry, I mean everyone started somewhere. Very true - who saw Braindead >>>> LOTR?? More

RE:
Just do the proper Dark Phoenix saga - when she becomes massively powerful and starts destroying suns and Sh'iar warships! Also it's about time Cable made an appearance as well as the old man himself - Apocalypse. Long may the X-Men franchise continue - if it's quality fare then who cares? I'll watch X-Men 10 if it's good enough More

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!! A few months a go, i was reading through a few web pages on info on X-Men 3 and i found a page with major spoilers. You're probably thinking yeah whatever but i'm not joking. An insider confirmed rumours of who is at that funeral. He took a look at the script and finds that PROFESSOR X and CYCLOPS dies in the movie. I can't remember what happens to Proffesor X but Cyclops does get killed by phoenix. For any more info on movies please email m More

RE: why the negative karma folks?
Indeed. I also heard in that Kinberg interview X3 will be at least somewhere between X1 and X2's running times, so I'm a little more reassured. Ratner loves X-Men as it is and certainly it is his big-budget debut: don't worry, I mean everyone started somewhere. Rush Hour is a good movie that doesn't scream out X-Men: neither does The Usual Suspects. More

RE: why the negative karma folks?
oh i totally agree, i doubt that the studios will fork out the cash to pay for the entire cast, and thats like lots!! but the idea of the Apocolypse or Genosha Saga would be awesome. people shouldnt freak out though, give the film a chance More

RE: why the negative karma folks?
This is the layout of the franchise I predict:   X-Men. X-Men 2. X-Men 3: The Last Stand.   This is a "base trilogy", much in the same way we split Star Wars into two different trilogies. They deal with X-Men's main theme of the X-Men, hostile mutants and humanity, as well as focuses on Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto, Jean and Rogue. However, they also do set up a larger world. Afterall, there will be:   Wolverine spin-off prequel. Magneto spin-off prequel. Third More

why the negative karma folks?
the title says it all for me.... why such hostility towars the film? this installment has all the right ingredients towards making the best super hero movie ever (until Superman that is) but im pleased that Patrick Stewart is talking or hinting at X4 - there is so much more and alot better to come - The Apocolypse and the Four Horseman Saga is one that im wishing for. Chill - and enjoy the ride More

RE: Regarding spoilers.....
Screenwriter, Simon Kinberg, said: "It was a strange clip, because they really cut down the sequence to feature all of Hugh’s beats, which hurt the flow and drama of the scene." He also said the music was temporary and some of the effects were unfinished. There's a good Q&A thread at www.thexverse.com More

RE: Regarding spoilers.....
It's one tiny clip set in early passages of the movie. Certianly the big opening is something else (Magnto's mutant prison escape?). More

RE: Regarding spoilers.....
That clip was very poor, I agree with the newbie (is his name a Dark Tower reference I ask?) it was very dull, even if its in the danger room and Wolverine is meant to be bored, theres no need to bore the audience. More

RE: Regarding spoilers.....
I guess I just don't mind it. Certainly Jackman's always been a great Wolverine. I hope it's just a little weak bit: I think the only potentially bad parts of the movie are with the younger X-Men. More

RE: Regarding spoilers.....
I know they're in the Danger Room, but there's laidback, and there's "we're gettin' killed out here", "I know, they're not ready Storm", delivered with all the conviction of a dead fish.  "That was my last cigar" Cringe..... More

Bring It On!
There's still an unbelievable amount of stories to be pillaged from the X-verse. Days Of Future Past. Inferno. Xtinction Agenda. Xcutioner's Song etc etc. They could all be adapted to suit the big screen. Unless this film bombs either financially and/or with the fans, I can't see them not making a few more films. More

RE: Fourth X-Men Movie
Who knows, but of course after X3 I don't see any X-Movies for at least another eight years. For the record, Wolverine and Magneto spin-offs are prequels. More

Fourth X-Men Movie
I think we should wait to see the what the third installment in the franchise is like before we start jumping to conclusions. It's interesting to note that there will be at least one demise in The Last Stand though. More

Regarding spoilers.....
No-one ever "dies" in comic book world, so even if the Prof does shuffle off his mortal coil in 3, he still might be back. I'd be more worried about whether or not 3 is good enough to warrant a 4. I loved the first two, but I'm still hovering on the fence about Ratner. The trailers look cool, but that "Sentinel" clip that showed up online a few days ago makes it look like everything that's not in the trailer just sucks. Having said that, a 4th film doesn't have to mean Ratner More

call me a moron, but as he is talking about the 4th film doesn't that suggest that the prof doesn't kick in the chair in this film? More
