Sisters Redoing It
DePalma film to be remade

13 April 2006  |  Written by   |  Source: Variety

Brian De Palma famously remade Scarface and now one of his own movies – 1973’s Sisters (or Blood Sisters as it’s known here) is feeling the bite of the remake beast.

Newcomer director Douglas Buck has co-written and is helming a redo, with French actress Lou Doillon joining Chloe Sevigny and Stephen Rea in the film.

The script, by Buck and Sister expert John Freitas focuses on a young woman (Doillon), whose life is a sheltered nightmare thanks to her control-freak psychologist (Rea). But things are turned upside down when a nosey journalist (Sevigny) starts poking into the situation.

Buck seems to think he has the key to improving on the original: "In the original film, which I love, DePalma chose style over substance. I'm interested in exploring all the other stuff that's there - the perversity, the tragedy, the sadness,” he boasted to Variety. All those character traits make it, to me, more interesting. I want to make the characters more alive."

We’ll all get a chance to see if he’s proved right – the film is currently shooting in Vancouver.
