Crouching Prequel, Hidden Cash-In Kung fu franchise in the offing
The Weinsteins have taken steps to try and repeat the success of Ang Lee's 2000 martial arts, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by putting three prequels and a sequel on the path to production.
The brothers have acquired the rights to the remainder of author Wang Du Lu's Crane-Iron Pentalogy which charts three generations of protagonists during the Qing dynasty and comprises Crane Frightens KunLun; Precious Sword,Golden Hairpin; Sword Spirit, Pearl Light;Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Iron Knight, Silver Vase. The films will be Chinese language and word is that Ang Lee will be asked to come on board.
What's more they've also landed rights for a worldwide stage production of the series that aims to dazzle audiences with acrobatics and martial arts in a cirque du soleil style.

These will just be martial arts films with a different director and a different cast - who can say what they will be like????? If they capture the style that will be a plus. ... Read More
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is purely ! Visually stunning and a great story! I haven't found anything, anywhere close to it, and I have been looking, except maybe House of Flying Daggers. I'm as surprised as James Dyer in the fact that it has taken them almost six years to come up with the idea. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the ultimate martial arts film of this generation according to its mainstream following (and myself, of course). I think its success will be hard to follow, but at least its sequels / prequels will stick to their roots and be delivered in Chinese. I still feel that Crouching Tiger is one of the most beatiful films ive ever seen. If only it was likely And would get on board for at least the sequal, then id be more than happy to see a new directer handle the sequals. I doubt Ang Lee will come back to this genre (he tends to move on and not go back) but they can bring in Yimou Zhang to direct - he will be brilliant! Also they can get in stars such as Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Faye Wong, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Donnie Yen and many more. I dount the Weinsteins will do this but heres to hoping...... ... Read More
