Emily The Strange Heads For The Big Screen
Cult comic heroine set for movie debut

You may not be familiar with the name Emily The Strange, but chances are you've seen her image. In fact, on the cooler / Goth-ier streets of your town, if you stand still for five minutes you're likely to see someone walk past wearing clothing emblazoned with her image. Now, at last, this odd bod is headed for the big screen, in a mix of live action and animation from Fox Animation.

Emily, for those who are unfamiliar with her adventures, is a rail-thin, pale-skinned 13 year-old with an outlook on life as dark as her trademark dress. Accompanied by her four black cats - Sabbath, Nee-Chee, Miles and Mystery - Emily provides a cynical and witty commentary on life. Sort of a Wednesday Addams figure, Emily has, over the years since her creation, become a Goth heroine, a feminist icon and spawned a multi-million dollar merchandising empire.

The plan is to make her film a mixture of live action and animation, but there are no further details as to how that will work as yet. Still, you can count on hearing her trademark quips (Wish you weren't here) however it works. Her creator, Rob Reger, has been trying to get her on the big screen for five years, and finally agreed to go with Fox when they promised to involve him in the creative process – so all those worrying that their anti-heroine will be Hollywoodised and turned into a big-bosomed blonde, fear no longer.

We'll keep you up to date on the Emily Strange movie as we hear more.
