McMahon To Be Taken Prisoner
Aussie Nip/Tuck star signs on for indie drama

Having earned his chops on Australian soap Home and Away back in the late '80s (y'know, around the time Carly started boozing a little too heavily?… Oh, forget it), Julian McMahon has come a long way. Currently starring in hit American surgical show Nip/Tuck and about to burst onto our screens as Fantastic Four baddie Doctor Doom (think Darth Vader with a penchant for green), the 36 year-old Aussie has just signed on for indie drama Prisoner, which will be penned and helmed by directorial debutants David Alford and Robert Lynn.

Playing a Hollywood director who is taken hostage whilst on a scouting mission to find a disused prison for a film location, McMahon will star alongside Elias Koteas (Crash, Traffic), the delectable but unpronounceable Dagmara Dominczyk, Kim Raver (from 24), Rocky Carroll (Crimson Tide, Spiderman 2) and Tom Guiry (Tigerland, Mystic River). They may not be household names, but they're accomplished character actors all.

The idea of a character being imprisoned in some form of abandoned building is hardly groundbreaking, but the irony of a Hollywood director being banged up as a result of his own lazy imagination could prove entertaining. And McMahon is certainly on a roll – the Bond talk may have calmed down slightly, but he's still building a reputation as an A-lister of tomorrow. Let's hope that this helps him get there. We'll keep you up to date as we find out more.
