Rings Still Rules The Box Office

You'll get absolutely no points whatsoever for guessing what topped the box office this weekend as it's the exact same film that has been minting its own cash since a week before Christmas. That's right, for Peter Jackson Return of the King is the gift that keeps on giving, with not a film in sight able to assail its position as box office overlord.
Topping the charts for the third week straight, the final Rings instalment took another $30.8 million in the US and $10.5 million (£5.8m) in the UK. And, for all of you who just love to be showered with figures, that brings the running US total to $292 million and the worldwide gross to a mind-boggling $676 million. Yes, that's six hundred and seventy six million dollars in just three weeks.
When visiting Hollywood, do keep an eye out for the flower and incense-decked shrine to Peter Jackson in the foyer of New Line Cinema, to which all employees pay daily homage and sacrifice their firstborn sons.
