You'll get absolutely no points whatsoever for guessing what topped the box office this weekend as it's the exact same film that has been minting its own cash since a week before Christmas. That's right, for Peter Jackson Return of the King is the gift that keeps on giving, with not a film in sight able to assail its position as box office overlord.
Topping the charts for the third week straight, the final Rings instalment took another $30.8 million in the US and $10.5 million (£5.8m) in the UK. And, for all of you who just love to be showered with figures, that brings the running US total to $292 million and the worldwide gross to a mind-boggling $676 million. Yes, that's six hundred and seventy six million dollars in just three weeks.
When visiting Hollywood, do keep an eye out for the flower and incense-decked shrine to Peter Jackson in the foyer of New Line Cinema, to which all employees pay daily homage and sacrifice their firstborn sons. |
