Joss Whedon Honoured PGA award prize for general awesomeness Source: Variety
Any time Joss Whedon isn’t getting a prize is time wasted in our humble opinion, so a round of applause to the people at sounds-like-golf-but-isn’t PGA – that’s Producers Guild of America, acronym fanciers - for doing him the honours.
The Dollhouse mastermind is to be honoured with the PGA’s Vanguard Award, an award for “achievements in new media and technology” (which presumably cocks a salute at the excellent Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog, and his comic work on Fray.)
He’s in honourable company: previous awardees include George Lucas, James Cameron, John Lasseter and Tom from MySpace.
David Friendly and Laurence Mark, co-chairs of the PGA Awards said: "Joss Whedon has mastered the art of melding the newest technology with inspired storytelling, truly exemplifying the spirit of the Vanguard Award.”
Not going to argue with that. Hats off to the man, who’ll get to cradle his statuette at a glittering ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium on January 24.
How come Whedon always winds up putting his show on Fox?
HBO and SyFy both seem to allow their shows room to breathe without worrying too much about how they're doing in the warzone that is audience ratings. You can almost understand Fox cutting Dollhouse, you really do need to follow it week to week, it doesn't lend itself particularly well to casual viewing, as evidenced by the numbers it lost.
It'd've been nice to see what kind of shot another network would've given it. ... Read More

I heard that Fox's rights to Firefly end this year. Surely it's time for someone else to pick it up and give us at least one more season. Pleeeeeeeeeeease let it happen!!!

This award is for achievements in new media and technology, right? Well, fair enough for Dr Horrible then, but Fray? It's a great comic, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing new about it. It doesn't do anything revolutionary with the comic form, and even the story is an extension of another show. Also, it's not exactly recent, is it? They started it in 2001, and it finished in 2003 - six years ago.
Of course, that it's being awarded in recognition of Dr Horrible and Fray is just guesswo... Read More

Very much derserved, lets not forget it was Whedon who came up with the screenplay for Toy Story as well.
What else can be said about Firefly & Serenity that hasn't already been said other than that the studio exec's that cancelled it should be shot out into space themselves. ... Read More

Ok,
I loved Firefly and thought it was a crime when it was cancelled. Serenity was excellent - it was the best Sci-Fi film I'd seen in a long time and served as an example to Lucas on how to make a film that isn't basically CGI Porn.
However, I didn't like Buffy. Don't get me wrong, I tried to like it and the final season was actually very good, but the rest I thought was cheesy (and not in a good way).
And Dollhouse... hmmmm. It is very very very very very average. Yes, I know that som... Read More
