Keira Knightley Is Our Fair Lady
By George, she's got it!
Source: Telegraph

Keira Knightley Is Our Fair Lady

For those not yet accustomed enough to her face, Keira Knightley, long rumoured to be on for the role, will shortly be starring as Eliza Doolittle in a redo of My Fair Lady. She'll be re-teaming with Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice), whose Indian Summer is currently on-hold, and possibly now permanently cancelled.

As you'll recall from your A Levels, My Fair Lady is the famous musical based on George Bernard Shaw's song-free Pygmalion, in which cockernee Eliza Doolittle is taken under the wing of Professor 'Enry 'Iggins, and lady-fied, for a bet. Julie Andrews made the role her own on stage, but was passed over for George Cukor's 1964 film version in favour of Audrey Hepburn, whose voice was then dubbed for the singing bits.

Not so with Keira, who's been taking singing lessons, and won the role despite stiff competition from Scarlett Johansson. Emma Thompson is writing the script, and Daniel Craig has been mooted as Higgins. Wouldn't that be luvverly?

As much as I can take or leave Keira Knightley, I'm really happy she got the role and not Scarlett Johannson although given how great Carey Mulligan is in An Education, i'm starting to wonder... Anyhow, Emma Thompson writing the script is pretty exciting as well seeing how well Sense and Sensibility went. Shaping up quite nicely i reckon ... Read More

Nice one...
Bloody hell, that's a bit of an all-star do, isn't it? Joe Wright, Knightley, Craig, Thompson... glad an English star got the role over an American, too. I've always liked Knightley, I think she's a lot better than people give her credit for, especially coupled with Wright, so I've got high hopes for this. ... Read More
