Carl Ellsworth Gets C.O.D.
Rewriting bike messenger thriller. Um.

Carl Ellsworth Gets C.O.D.

Red Eye and Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired to rewrite C.O.D. (ie Cash On Delivery, non-acronym-users), the thriller about a New York City bike messenger forced to deliver bombs to three locations lest one of those be locations be his family home! (Cue dramatic drum-roll, look of horror on Our Hero's face)

The catch in this film is that an entire nation is looking for him, as well as the authorities, to stop these bombs getting through. And probably that his lycra shorts are giving him a wedgie*.

We kid, of course; we're just trying to get a handle on the idea of an action hero with a cycling helmet (and he better be wearing a helmet, or we're going to have to write a strongly worded letter to Hollywood about encouraging dangerous cycling).

The script was originally written by Lars Jacobson and sold in 2008, but the rewrite suggests that someone, somewhere, is getting serious about putting it into production. And Ellsworth is pretty hot right now: he worked on the new version of Red Dawn (go Wolverines!) and is tinkering with Y: The Last Man to boot. In any case, rev your, er, pedals and adjust your helmet, because this one is going to run red lights all over the place.

*It's possible that he's a motorcycle courier, but that gives us much less funny mental images, so let's stick with push-bike, like the sort of dreadlocked ne'er-do-well in the sprayed-on lycra who hangs out on Poland Street all the time.

Sooo hot right now
Is it at all possible to request that the talented Empire writers consider looking at alternate phrases to 'so hot right now' instead of constantly recycling something that sounds like it comes from that Scottish/American amalgam entertainment reporter on GMTV. As a snappy alternative I'd suggest 'had a movie that made a lot of money and so is likely to sign up to as many as possible before anyone realizes it was a fluke' but I'm not a journalist so don't feel compelled to use it. ... Read More
