Edge Of Darkness Trailer Now Online

The trailer for Edge of Darkness is now online, and it looks like a movie throwback to an earlier time for several reasons. First of all, it's clearly a gritty cop drama with a grizzled lead (Mel Gibson, returning to acting for the first time in ages), involving quite a bit of violence but no bullet-time. Secondly, it features someone saying "Fasten your seatbelts", which we haven't heard in years.

It's all based on the 1985 BBC TV series of the same name, but before you throw up your hands in disgust and dismiss it as just another remake, it's worth noting that this is directed by Martin Campbell, who also made the much acclaimed series. That makes it less like Gus Van Sant's Psycho and more like Alfred Hitchcock's 1956 remake of his own film, The Man Who Knew Too Much.

The film's out on February 19, 2010 in the UK, and also stars Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Frank Grillo. On the evidence of this character-heavy, explosion-light trailer, we're looking forward to it.

VERY talented at times, my smashing thoughts on this chap, BEING an idiot and still as versatile as anyone to go either way. YOU know he is a scout for the masses and a hero within film. CHARMING and mean! ... Read More

RE: Edge Of Darkness Trailer Now Online
L: paul.mccluskey It looks like the whole nuclear power plotline has been removed, although at least an element of conspiracy is in the trailer. Seems like a standard revenge action thriller to me. not looking promising. Looks like they'll be pissing away all the Gaia elements as well. The only way Mel will turn into a tree is if they nail him to it. ... Read More

RE: Edge Of Darkness Trailer Now Online
Oh yeah, and could they have given the trailer a more loaded last line...  It's as if they're trying to get the PASSION audience to show up or remind people of (censored).   Apart from that, I'm not a fan of Campbell, never expect much from him, so maybe because of that the trailer doesn't look too bad.  Winstone adds a lot.  He's just coolness personified.  ... Read More

RE: Edge Of Darkness Trailer Now Online
Wow, some major censorship on this board.   I don't think you can ever completely divorce an actor from his real-life scandals and I think they are a valid conversation point.  A lot of people I know of (censored) persuasion have vowed in front of me to never go see a Mel Gibson movie ever again.  I can certainly understand how they feel.   ... Read More

Awesome! Yeah, Mel's back in pissed off mode! I love it when Gibson gets angry onscreen. It looks really good, Ray Winstone just adds to the coolness. Directed by the same guy who did Goldeneye, I'm there. It will be great to see Mel on the big screen again. ... Read More

Bit underwhelmed to be honest...Edge of Darkness is the greatest TV drama ever made, but this looked so...average. That noise you hear may be Troy Kennedy Martin spinning in his grave. ... Read More
