Edward Zwick's Drug Hooks Three
Macht, Azaria & Platt join Viagra satire

Edward Zwick's Drug Hooks Three

Gabriel Macht, Hank Azaria and Oliver Platt have joined the cast of Love And Other Drugs, the rom-com that signals a swerve away from intensely worthy dramas for its director, Edward Zwick.

Based on Charles Reidy’s non-fiction novel, Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, Love And Other Drugs may be closer to satire than a conventional rom-com, but there’s no doubt that it’s taking Zwick in a different direction from his work on the likes of Defiance, The Last Samurai and Blood Diamond. And, the new additions aside, he’s attracted a heck of a cast, with Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal and Judy Greer already on board.

Hathaway plays a woman with Parkinson’s disease who embarks on a relationship with Gyllenhaal’s Viagra salesman. And no, we’re not going to make any jokes about that because, frankly, we’re bored stiff with Viagra gags.

Anyway, Macht will play Hathaway’s existing boyfriend, Azaria will play a doctor who’s a client of Gyllenhaal’s and the always-excellent Platt will play Gyllenhaal’s boss, a man who’s desperate to make sales of the little blue pills rise. Ahem.

Zwick is also co-producing the movie, which starts filming at the end of September. Charles Randolph wrote the script, and Fox 2000/New Regency is stumping up the cash.
