Nicolas Cage Is Off Green Hornet Villain role now officially up for grabs Source: The Hollywood Reporter
After months of will-he-won't-he, the results are finally in: he won't. Nicolas Cage, tipped as the villain in Michel Gondry's Green Hornet, has officially now declined, according to The Hollywood Reporter's 'Heatvision' blog, because "the actor and the studio were not able to come to terms on a deal".
With Cage also prepping Drive Angry and The Hungry Rabbit Jumps though, not to mention juggling producing and exec producing on a number of other projects, it seems likely that timing was also an issue. There's only so much one guy can handle, even if he is a Coppola.
So now the hunt begins for a new Mr X for Green Hornet, which has already started shooting, with, as you certainly already know by now, Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz. We suspect that hunt may not be too protracted: surely with shooting underway and Cage not actually locked in, Columbia had a Plan B up their sleeves...
I agree with you but then the same criticism could be levelled at the majority of Hollywood for marketing actors as brands and churning out vanity vehicles for said movie stars. I personally think Adaptation was Kaufmans best and Cage showed greater range and sensitivity in that performance (in my opinion). Rockwell is great but like with RDJ and Cage you could still level a simailar argument that they repeat their special 'thing,' natural charm and charisma goes along way on screen which often ... Yeah you can bring up things like Matchstick Men and Bringing Out The Dead, Lord Of War but none were stand out great films and it was all his usual schtick. Like with most of the A-list, they play a couple of characters and just put them in different situations. Adaptation is the only Kaufman film I don't like. I suppose it's not that he's especially bad but that the biggest names get typecast and play it safe rather than looking for different characters. That's why people like Phillip Seymour... Read More
Apart from ones already mentioned - Adaptation(!), Matchstick Men, Bringing Out the Dead, Lord of War, Rumble Fish among others - Hello!
Interesting films in which Cage turned in credible performances. Most people these days have ADD, plain and simple, give the guy a break, he's a talented actor who had a dip in quality output, get over it Cage naysayers, it's getting real tedious. ... Read More

Nicolas Cage should indeed be removed from all films. Except maybe Wild At Heart. And possibly Face/Off. His only other contribution to the world is keeping wig makers in business.
At least give him Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock and Raising Arizona dude. Plus I promise you when we finally see Kick-Ass, you'll be pleased to see him too.
As for the not doing movies for the money business. Look at Aaron Eckhart, No Reservations, Love Happens, The Core, its not like he d... Read More
t’s hardly news to say that somebody isn’t going to be in something, unless it’s “Shia LaBeouf will not star in anything ever again,” it’s always good to know Mr Cage and his wig of the week won’t be in a movie.
I’ve been alternately interested by and apathetic about ornetit was announced. My thought process went something like this:
Michel Gondry's making a Green Hornet movie: That sounds good. Seth Rogen’s in it: Oh. Not so interested.
Stephen Chow will play Kato: Groovy. Stephen Cho... Read More
erewolf Women of the SS as an example of good acting is ng at straws]
Dude, clutching at straws is all you can do with this guy. My dislike for Cage is definately a recurring theme in my posts on Empire.
It bothers me that there is some sort of talent there but he throws it away by going for big pay cheques in empty headed movies made by b-movie diirectors who got lucky.
As far as I'm concerned he can disappear forever. ... Read More
He shouldn't be signing on for films he doesn't give a shit about then. It's not exactly like he needs the money. The guy is so bad in so much crap. He used to be a good actor but it's a long time since he gave a really good performance. Using Werewolf Women of the SS as an example of good acting is clutching at straws. All he had to do was stand there and laugh. If you look at Wild At Heart, Raising Arizona and Leaving Las Vegas, they were all smaller projects with quirky characters. They were... Read More
Again, pretty unfair man. Look at Wild At Heart, Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock, Face/Off, The Werewolf Women of the SS trailer, Red Rock West and the footage from Kick-Ass. The man can act and can have a lot of fun onscreen if given a) the right material and b) the right direction. He just has a bad habit of going for the payday recently on trash (though i think Knowing is a work of ridiculous genius!) but if he actually gives a shit about the film I do think he can be really goo... I think that Nic Cage should never be in another comic book movie after the disaster which was Ghost Rider.
sp;
Ghost Rider gets a bit of bad rap. Its no X-Men 2 but its also no Spawn. It silly superhero fodder with Cage doing some hilarious visuals (first transformation scene is vintage Cage looney-ness) and some fun action. Maybe its cause it was based on a character I never really gave a shit about to begin with but I dont think people should be as harsh with Cage abo... Read More
