David Gordon Green's Suspiria Is Go
Horror remake to shoot in 2010

David Gordon Green's Suspiria Is Go

While Italian director Luca Guadagnino was telling those lovely people at Variety all about his plans to remake Auntie Mame with Tilda Swinton in the title role (read our story on it here), he also let slip some hot info about another remake that he’s producing: David Gordon Green’s remake of Suspiria, which will start shooting, apparently, in 2010.

Yes, Dario Argento’s Suspiria. The nutso, bizarro, absolutely cream crackers horror classic, about a coven of witches terrorising a dance academy, will be remade by David Gordon Green, the indie king renowned for his carefully calibrated, emotionally layered and visually beautiful dramas, like George Washington, Snow Angels and Undertow.

We’ve known that for a while, of course. The news was first announced in 2008, when it made about the same amount of sense as it does now. But not making any sense is an Argento trademark, so in a way Green – who, with Pineapple Express and the currently-shooting period comedy, Your Highness, is dabbling more and more in the mainstream – makes perfect sense as a director. If that makes any sense.

Still, after the news was announced, it all went a little quiet while Green immersed himself in comedy. But now, with Guadagnino’s disclosure it seems that the film, which he’ll produce through his company, First Sun, is still very much alive. Prepare to have your brain turned inside out.

here we go again, for F**k's Sake.
First they remake George A Romero's all time classic DAWN OF THE DEAD (Look the remake was good dumb fun, however compared to Romero's classic it's a clunker). Then Carpenters slasherific HALLOWEEN ( rob zombie is a swearword these days) now they are picking on the italian Poe ARGENTO, The thing is about european cinema by its very nature it is artistic, SUSPIRIA ( although the story is a kind of adaptation of LOVECRAFTS dreams in the witch house, hell if BATMAN pinched LOVECRAFT'S ARKHAM ASYLUM... Read More

It was always going to happen
I've given up caring what they remake now. The pattern is always the same; remake of a classic is announced, we all get worked up, said remake arrives, gets slated, gets forgotten about and we continue celebrating the originals as usual. I doubt this will be any different. If anything it reminds us why the originals were so good in the first place. ... Read More

NO!!! Enough is enough!
I'm getting fed up with the remaking of classic horror movies. After the debacles of The Wicker Man, Halloween, Psycho and the rest, we now have to suffer a remake of yet another truly original horror movie. Yes the plot makes little sense, but it's the style, colour scheme, sets and the brutal violence, topped of with possibly the greatest horror soundtrack of them all the make Suspiria a classic. No new version of this film will ever get close to the brilliance Argento displays here. Can't... Read More
