District 9 Full Trailer Online

The full trailer for Neil Blomkamp and Peter Jackson's District 9 has finally arrived at Yahoo.

Anticipation is hotting up, following the clever viral marketing campaign and the one-sheet from earlier this week. Everyone's nicely aware of the concept by now - aliens landing in South Africa and ghettoised in the district of the title - but this is our most detailed glimpse so far of how that concept is going to pan out on film.

We knew about the documentary approach from the teaser trailer (also up at Yahoo) but the full clip gives a pretty good idea of the scale of the action too, with a lot of quick shots of firefights between ground troops and what look like giant mechanoids. Which makes for the third humanity-versus-robots rumble this summer, after Terminator: Salvation and Transformers: ROFL (sorry, ROTF).

The UK release date is September 4th, and there will be full coverage in Empire issue 243, on sale July 30th.

Looks Wicked!
This looks really cool. Loving the documetary style and the look of the sets. I think the alien design us quite cool as well. If this film is as good as the trailer then count me in! ... Read More

RE: Sceptical
L: losthighway It looks like a cross between T4 and War of the Worlds. Could be an absolute disaster as we've already seen with T4 (I've yet to see Transformers 2!)... think i'll remain mildly sceptical because nothing in that trailer suggests that it's anything better than a cinema verite looking B movie! sp; I don’t think you need to worry about this being like either of those. Both McG and Bay are atrocious hacks who, in my, opinion have never really offered up anything of any merit... Read More

RE: Off tha hook
L: danapoli Well looking forward to this. As well as the "Alive in Joburg" short he's done a number of really promising ads (he did that Citroen ad with the dancing car that made me think at the time he'd end up directing Transformers). Google the "Yellow" Adicolor short or Tetra Vaal if you want to see more. He has a real feel for characterising machinery. As happy as I am to see him cut his teeth on an original sci-fi that looks to be suitably epic, fun and badarse all at once, I reckon ... Read More

Nice!
I think this proves it's a more fleshed out affair. People who were intrigued by it before and are skeptical now might have been ready to have their presupposed ideas about the narrative jarred by later trailers like this one - but it is going to appeal to a wider audience with the use of more action/robots/explosions. I think the plotline surrounds that MNU guy who visits District 9 gets sprayed in the face and begins turning into an alien? Then the MNU as well as the aliens want to hunt him... Read More

RE: RE:
L: David Somerset The first trailer made me very excitable, but this one... not so much. There are things I like about this trailer: the spaceship hanging in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't, to quote Douglas Adams, and the guy who gets accidentally sprayed in the face in what seems like a comedy moment but looks like it might have horrific consequences are particularly unsettling. But then it all goes a bit Transformersy and there's some kind of robot bashing things abo... Read More
