No Heathers Sequel Says Lehmann Director scotches Winona's rumour Source: Movieline
Empire issue 241 (with the Public Enemies cover - you remember, you bought it, didn't you?) contained a giant interview with Winona Ryder, who at the time seemed clear that a Heathers sequel was percolating.
"Whatever you hear, [it] is in the works, I swear!" said Nona. "There is a story, and Christian [Slater] has agreed to come back as a kind of Obi-Wan character. For some reason Dan [Waters, writer], and Michael [Lehmann, director] don't want to talk about it."
"Winona brings it up every once in a while and Dan Waters and I will joke about it, but as far as I know there’s no script and no plans to do the sequel," says the director, who spoke to Waters and discovered he doesn't know anything either. "I never thought it made sense to see a sequel to a movie which took place in a specific time and specific place and in which many of the characters got killed off."
So there you have it. There are plenty of mooted eighties revivals in various stages of development, but Heathers, aparently, is not among them. Are we sad or relieved?
It's not impossible to make a decent sequel to any film, but the mistake is always to rework moments from the original anew, instead of getting under the skin of the story, recapturing the spirit, particularly the utter nihlism under main character's humour. With enough imagination anything is possible.
One way to have a similar impact would be to create a new teen bloke that had changed his name to JD after reading Catcher in the Rye (JD Salinger) AND seeing the original Heathers (but pe... Read More
Heathers doesnt need a sequel. Its message was about peer pressure and rebellion. It was self contained and perfect.
I just cant image a sequel that would make the same kind of statement twenty years on.

I'm not a big fan of hers however I have enjoyed all of her movies, Beetlejuice being my favourite, I cant remember the plot of Edward Scissorhands and so need to give it another watch.
Heathers is awesome and a sequel probably would have ruined it, but I would have liked to see another Heathers movie, what could the plot have been about??? ... Read More
I've been a fan since Mermaids or probably Beetlejuice - she's a fantastic actress with great conviction in the memorable roles she plays.
She'll make her comeback and even if she doesn't, she's got way too much behind her to prove anything.
No heathers sequel cos it would just screw up the legacy lik another cult classic that shouldn't have been tampered with but was anyway!!!!
.....anybody seen the tribe?

... doesn't matter though. I've fancied her since Edward Scissorhands. I think I was 12. Now I'm 30. I think that makes her my longest movie crush ever. She can shoplift in my store any time she likes!

Relieved. Heathers was a black-comedy classic. The chances of a sequel actually being half as good (Slater as an "Obi-Wan-type character"?!!) are slim indeed. Certain films should remain stand-alone. This is one of them. ... Read More
