New Casting for Fiennes' Coriolanus
Hurt and Redgrave join Shakespeare film

New Casting for Fiennes' Coriolanus

Ralph Fiennes is set to make his directorial debut on Coriolanus, an adaptation of the Shakespeareplay of the same name. And now he's lined up some big names to join him, in the shape of Vanessa Redgrave, William Hurt and Jessica Chastain.

The play is being adapted for the screen by John "Sweeney Todd" Logan, and tells the story of the titular Roman general who becomes involved in political intrigue both on behalf of the Roman Republic and against it, unwilling as he is to acknowledge the role of the plebians in the State.

Fiennes himself will be playing the leading role as well as directing, and we're guessing that Redgrave will play his mother Volumnia. Hurt could be playing his commander Cominius or blood enemy Aufidius, and we're guessing that Chastain, who may not have a long history in film but has done a lot of Shakespearean acting, will play his wife.

There's more casting to come, of course, but that's all we have for now. Well, everything except this Cannes teaser poster, which you can see in our latest videoblog here.
