Is Bradley Cooper The Green Lantern? Star may be frontrunner for hero flick Source: HitFix
Drew McWeeny over at Hitfix is usually on the money when it comes to casting scoops, so when The Artist Formerly Known As Moriarty tells you that Bradley Cooper may well be the man chosen to fill the Green Lantern’s ring, then you should bally well listen.
“I'm not a betting man, but if I were, I would bet that Cooper's going to be the guy,” says McWeeny. And certainly he seems to think that Cooper, just one of the young Hollywood types linked with the role, has moved beyond the friendly meeting with Green Lantern director Martin Campbell stage to the giving the wardrobe department his measurements stage.
If it’s true, then this is very good casting. Cooper has been on the verge of breaking out for a few years now, with supporting turns in the likes of Wedding Crashers, Yes Man and the TV show, Alias. But with the upcoming comedy The Hangover, he’s finally graduated to leading man status, giving a performance that is cocky, cool and confident.
And those attributes will come in handy if he’s to play Hal Jordan in the Warner Bros. movie, which is based on the DC comic book, as Jordan – who becomes the Green Lantern, essentially a super space cop entrusted with guarding Earth with the aid of his trusty powerful ring – is a cocky, cool, confident hotshot pilot type.
With filming set to start in September on the movie, it looks like Campbell will make his mind up soon. He could do a lot worse than plump for Cooper.
I am a MASSIVE green lantern fan i think that Cooper can pull it off, Hal Jordan to me is like a cross between Robert Redford and Paul Newman, he has to be real cool and charismatic but also masculine and think this guy is a good choice for the role. ... Read More
bradley wouldn't be bad, but i still have my heart set on david boreanez. he voiced hal in the new frontier movie, and was awesome, and he just feels like the epitome of that character, if that's the green lantern of choice in the movie. he also was found in his tub on bones, reading a green lantern comic! come on, he's perfect!

i still have doubts whether the green latern as a character has the mainstream awareness to make it in a stand alone film without prior introduction. I would've thoguht the character would've been better incorporated in a superman sequel of some form similar to how the silver surfer was: as initially a kind of anti hero (that frankly is one of the few DC characters capable of having some fighting fun with superman) who ends up seeing the light and helping him against something else like doomsda... I thought that green lantern was black... or was that just the cartoon?
asn't he a later incarnation?? there's been a few green lanterns the 1st one was white. Suppose that makes this guy perfect for a franchise? if the actor gets bored and quits they can pass it on to the next guy. Note just have it in there contract that they have to pass the torch in a movie!!
think he's a good choice by the way.
Can people stop asking to put nathan fillion in films???... Read More
Based on how he was in the underrated Kitchen Confidential, he's got the cocky chops to pass as a young Hal Jordan. Definitely an actor that should be more famous/have better roles as purplefacedmonkey would have it. Just like the great Bruce Greenwood. ... Read More
I was gonna suggest him for Captain America in the thread for that. But this is probably good casting. He was always very good in Alias, IMO. ... Read More
