Exclusive: Edge of Darkness Picture Mel Gibson's return to acting
Mel Gibson hasn't starred in a film since The Singing Detective in 2003, but he's back back back in crime drama Edge of Darkness from Casino Royale director Martin Campbell - and here's a new still from the film to give you a tiny taste of what we're in for.
The film sees Gibson play a homicide cop who witnesses the death of his daughter (Bojana Novakovic) and set out to catch the killers, uncovering a larger conspiracy in the process. "He's a seasoned old detective," Gibson told us, "a bit hangdog. And he's in a state of shock for most of the film, because he's had tremendous trauma right at the beginning of it."
Edge of Darkness is due out late in 2009, and to read more about the film pick up - chorus it with us now - a copy of the 20th birthday issue of Empire, on sale now.

REMAKES that were better than the original: Oceans Eleven, Death Race(oh yes), The Thomas Crown Affair, Man on Fire, Batman Begins, and that's just the handful I could think of right now. The problem is rarely the concept, but rather the execution. I love it when good stories get remade with modern effects, camera techniques, acting styles. While we are on the subject of remakes, I have just read that Simon West, (he of The General's Daughter and Con Air) is gonna direct a remake of the totally... Read More
