The Only Way Is Up

Grumpy old man ties 10,000 balloons to his house in a bid to float to South America. It's not the average Pixar pitch (no talking fish or anthropomorphised toys) and something you might instead expect to find on the cover of the National Enquirer but it is the story behind Up, the latest project from the CG uber-wizards.

The film is scheduled for release in October 2009 but we have an exclusive interview and images in the new issue of Empire magazine (in shops now). For a taste of what's in store, one of those images is included below for your enjoyment. Behold, septuagenarian Carl Fredricksen in all his cantankerous glory.

RE: Peerless Pixar
The first half of Wall-E is a classic, the second half is merely a solid genre offering. Hopefully this can be a full classic.  ... Read More

Peerless Pixar
Really looking forward to this one. Wall-e was ace and I have to agree that even Pixar's worst films (Cars and a Bug's Life) are still gems. ... Read More

Pixar's Secret
I've long been of the opinion that all of Pixar's movies are made on a dare. After the success of Toy Story, I think they just got cocky and every movie starts with "I bet you can't make a good movie about..." And somehow, they always make it great. "I bet you can't make a good movie about talking fish..." "I bet you can't make a good movie about talking cars..." "I bet you can't make a good movie about a rat who cooks..." "I bet you can't mak... Read More

It will have do a lot to match Wall.E
I doubt that'll be possible as Wall.E is an absolute classic already. It'l be better than Cars as that is Pixars worst so far and Cars is quite good (especially Jeremy Clarkson doing the voice of Speed McQueen's Jewish agent). That tells you how good Pixar is. Let's hope its up there with The Incredibles. ... Read More

Trust in Pixar
The more unconventional their ideas, the more faith I have that it will be glorious. They're pushing strange story concepts further than most live-action films and they haven't slipped up once. Look at Wall-E. A robot that doesn't speak and who's only friend is a cockroach? Most people baulked. But then they saw it and ate their words. ... Read More

Pixar
I haven't seen Wall-E yet, but I have heard many good things about it. I have always liked each and every Pixar movie that has been released and I have a lot of confidence in them whenever they release a new film. They took a very interesting turn when it came to Wall-E and I'm pretty sure that they will have just as much success with Up. ... Read More
