The Wrestler Trailer Finally Here

It's been a long time coming, but The Wrestler trailer is here at last, and it'll give you some indication why every critic and member of the public who has already seen the film has started buzzing about Oscars.

Darren Aronofsky's film sees Mickey Rourke play Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a wrestler who was big in the 1980s but now ekes out a living at small shows and conventions. A regular at a strip club, he has a quasi-friendship with dancer Cassidy (Marisa Tomei), who encourages him to seek out and try to win back his estranged daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood). And in the meantime, Randy's offered the chance of a lifetime, a rematch with his most iconic opponent, The Ayatollah.

The Wrestler is out here on January 16, which gives you six days to see it before Oscar nominations are announced on January 22 and everyone starts crowding in to see Rourke's performance (we're betting).

Helen O'Hara

RE: Absolutely Fantastic
L: keaneye I can't remember ever seeing a trailer where I had immediately empathized with the main character, but the Wrestler has achieved that. This is not one of those typical oscar roles where the actor feels he must be frighteningly intense like he's really gunning for that award, yet it already looks like a thoroughly powerful and convincing performance in a film that seems to have a very easy pace to it. sp; Damn right . I also got the feeling like we were watching his life unfo... Read More

I´m an old broken down piece of meat…
I don´t care if it´s only a trailer, and what the finished movie will be like. That trailer alone gave me more of the feeling I want movie´s movies to give me, surely more than most of the BS I had to endure the last couple of years. ... Read More

Looking forward to this.
If I lived in or around London would have definately seen this at the LFF, but won't have long to wait now till it gets here. Mickey Rourke seems to be right at home with this characer and it looks like Darren Aronofsky is back on form after the abysmally dull and up itself The Fountain. Still can't believe it was above the classic The Wicker Man in the top 500 films of all trime. ... Read More
