Rod Lurie, purveyor of smart political films like The Contender and TV show Commander In Chief, is back with a new drama about a government scandal, leaked information and a reporter who faces prison rather than reveal her source. See the first trailer for Nothing But The Truth here.

Kate Beckinsale stars as reporter Rachel Armstrong, who breaks a story about a government scandal that, among other things, names Erica Van Doren (The Departed's Vera Farmiga) as a CIA operative. Ordered to reveal her source, Armstrong refuses, and is sent to prison for contempt of court. Like, bummer.

David Schwimmer plays Armstrong's husband; Angela Basset her editor; Alan Alda her lawyer and Matt Dillon the prosecutor determined to put her away. Noah Wyle and Courtney B. Vance also star, in a film that is clearly largely inspired by (but not an actual account of) the Valerie Plame / Scooter Libby affair, where a White House aide leaked the identity of a CIA operative to reporters. New York Times reporter Judith Miller actually served jail time for refusing to reveal her source as part of that investigation.

Nothing But The Truth is out here sometime next year, but doesn't have a confirmed release date yet.
