Paul Newman Dies Movie legend succumbs to cancer at 83
Blue-eyed acting legend Paul Newman died on Friday, succumbing to cancer at the age of 83.
Newman had been fighting the disease for some time and, last year, had given up acting as a result of failing health.
The ten-time Oscar nominated actor - who finally scooped the gong in 1987 for The Colour Of Money - saw his career get off to a rocky start with 1954's The Silver Chalice. Newman rallied from his disappointing debut, however, and found success playing boxer Rocky Graziano in Somebody Up There Likes Me.
His stardom was cemented with roles in such films as The Hustler and Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid but he was perhaps best known for his portrayal as an iconic non-conformist sentenced to hard labour on a chain gang in 1967's Cool Hand Luke.
His last feature film role as actor (rather than voice actor) was 2002's Road to Perdition. Newman also won two honorary Oscars, and gave a fortune to charity as a result of his Newman's Own line of salad dressings and sauces.
A hollywood legend that unlike many other actors of his time has kept a high standard of acting and been involved in impressive movies throughout his long career. Road to Perdition and Cool Hand Luke were unforgettable films. ... Read More
Thank you to Empire, who had the decency to revise the Title. Admittedly it's only a small change but one that makes a big difference.
I hope you are planning on making a suitably fitting tribute in the next Issue, as has been suggested by various other forum members.

He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. nd Luke he's a natural-born world-shaker."

He told Jonathan Ross on his chat show that he'd keep acting after Perdition, but that was clearly rollocks; watch his last ever scene on film, photographed by Conrad Hall who lensed 'Butch and Sundance'...........................hard to beat that for an exit.
He did an enjoyable low-budget heist caper a couple of years before that called 'Where the Money Is' and two aspects of the picture really knock you out.
1) There's a short scene when he's sitting in a bath with a wet

'Paul Newman Dead' is a lame insensitive Sun-style title grabber.
Have no vested interest in Paul Newman particularly - just agree with the other poster that its a lazily written, insensitive title.

I am truly upset by the passing of Paul Newman, the man being what I consider to be what an actor should aim to be. He has made some great and meaningful films which will live in my heart forever, especially Cool Hand Luke.
As for the comments made by Spyro and MaffSheppard, how else would you report the news!?!
Please Empire, I and it appears many others would appreciate a special issue with a dedication to the legend himself. Being a subscriber I was a receiver of the Heath Ledger cover iss... Read More
