Half-Blood Prince Goes 3-D For opening and closing bits on Imax Source: IMAX
OK, so Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince won't be released now until next summer. But the good news is that, when it finally is released on July 17, there will be sections shown in 3-D for those who see it on Imax screens.
In a process similar to that used on Superman Returns, action-y sections of the film will be threedeeified (that's a technical term) on Imax, and there'll probably be a little wand or something that appears in the top corner of the screen to let you know to put on your goofy glasses. That, and the way everything suddenly goes blurry.
Which bits will be 3-D? Well, we hear that there will be about 25 minutes in total, split between the opening sequence and finale - and we're guessing that that might cover Voldemort's attacks up and down Britain (related in the book by Cornelius Fudge, rather than shown) and of course the big showdown in the Astronomy Tower. But who knows? Maybe we'll get 3D Quidditch somewhere in there instead.
But with nine-and-a-bit months to go, you've got all the time in the world to figure out exactly what's going to be covered. So speculate away below!
Is this the same as those Harry Potter books? Guys, have you read those Twilight books? They are so much better I think. Is this going to be the same as the movie of those books? I heard them on the MTV awards where I heard about them from the guy who was in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was talking about them. He didn't say if they were in 3-D. ... Read More
Not a fan of the series but they are stepping in the right direction. Studios need to start offering up experiences that cant be replicated at home now that massive flat screens and Blu Rays are becoming more common place. Post Dark Knight Blockbusters should be exploiting the kind of images available through shooting with IMAX cameras, not that this is but they’re still using the format to bring the audience a better experience. The plan to do Iron Man 2 100% on IMAX cameras with a 3D ele... Read More
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! why is everyone jumping on the 3D bandwagon. Its a gimick that really doesn't work properly unless the film has been made with 3D in mind from the begining and even then it doesn't always work. I can remember a good six or seven times during Journey to the center of the earth where the glasses didn't work properly and i ended up seeing the edges of the screen out of 3D which fucked up what i was seeing through the glasses. I don't want to see Transformers 2 in 3D or Har... Read More
The problem with 3D is that the editing of a movie never allows for natural focus adjustment of the viewer's eyes. Normal editing allows for quick cuts of various focal lengths, but when this is converted into 3D, the eyes can struggle to catch up with the constant 're-focusing' of the depth of fields.
Future 3D movies really need to address this problem at the start of initial production or perhaps can be 're-edited' for 3D. Either way, there will always be inherent focus/editing problems wit... Read More
