The International Trailer Hits The Net Eeek! Banks are scary! Source: Apple
Clive Owen's mad as hell, and he's not going to take it anymore. At least, that's what we're taking from the trailer for his new film, The International, also starring Naomi Watts and Armin Mueller-Stahl. Watch it here.
On the one hand, the idea that big banking controls the world and exercises a terrifying power over our economy and lives is less "plausible" and more "fact", so the Big Bad has the potential to creep everyone out. On the other hand, the idea that Clive Owen and a rather wet-looking Naomi Watts can bring the system down is less convincing. Still, we learn from the trailer that Owen's going to "go outside the system" to do this one, and it's clear that he's a maverick. With a gun. So anything could happen.
In all seriousness, given that this comes from director Tom Tykwer it's got a seriously strong chance of being rather good. It's due here on March 13 of next year, so look out for it then.
Looks good, I like Clive Owen, quite like Naomi Watts, was a bit gutted though, you said "rather wet Naomi Watts" I thought you meant there would be gratuitous shots of her either a) wearing not much and coming out of a pool, or b) rather aroused in the trouser area. You have disapointed me Empire. ... Read More
Looks like Clive Owen still hasn't resolved his 'didn't-get-the-role-of-bond' complex. Maybe in spite he's decided to make a few corny rip-offs. ... Read More
It's got a good cast and a good director but it's seeming quite straight forward and the story is sort of what the Bond movies are doing - an international organisation bankrolling bad things in the world. Only with more flair.
Films like this with lower budgets needs twists to replace the non-stop acdtion and going by the trailer The International seems to lack them. ... Read More
Very mediocre trailer, but as has been said by others, Clice Owen and Tom Tykwer would suggest something rather good.
The only reason why this might end up shit is studio interference (it is Tykwer's first proper studio pic). Columbia are normally pretty good about not interfering, though, so I'm thinking it's probably a bit quirky, maybe quite intelligent, so the trailer wasn't that easy to cut. I get the distinct impression it's not an action movie at all in the way that the trailer seem... Read More
i can usually rely on you not to be an idiot...
"it's got a seriously strong chance of being rather good."
no. no it hasn't. not after a trailer as second hand, cliched and moribund as that. i laughed out loud three times and groaned audibly four. the rest of the time was spent shaking my head in gentle bemusement at what on earth made clive owen say yes to this. ... Read More

Neat recreation of the Guggenheim Museum, but the rest I'm not to sure about. This could be ace - and many of the names involved hint at some serious quality - but the trailer looks too much like Syriana and Bourne screwed together, with a little Bond in between. Usually I'd say this smells like three star material, but Tykwer, Watts and Owen aren't renowned for producing mediocrity. ... Read More
