Two More Riddick Films Coming? Vin Diesel thinks so. Source: MTV
OK, so the box office was less than stellar. And the reviews about the same. The Chronicles of Riddick still made enough money overseas and from the tie-in game to be considered a success, so Vin Diesel isn't totally whacko when he says that the two planned sequels might still happen. That said, we're not holding our breath either.
Speaking to MTV recently for the launch of his latest misfire actioner Babylon AD, Diesel said that there are two more in mind, and that David Twohy is writing the scripts at the moment. "The only question is whether we take a page from the Lord of the Rings guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time," Diesel told the channel. He also said that the delay between the last film and this proposed sequel is less down to convincing people to make it and more to do with he and Twohy being determined to get it right.
After the last film ended with (SPOILER) Riddick as King of the Necromancers (END SPOILER - honestly, it's been years since it came out), Diesel says that this one will end up in their Underverse - so even darker than Pitch Black, we assume.
So good luck to Diesel for all of this - maybe between this and that promising Fast and Furious trailer he'll get back on track.
Bring them on - Riddick is a super character. Chronicles of Riddick had some brilliant ideas, killer design elements and attention to detail (the sets, costumes etc.). You can see that they put a lot of effort into it and that has to be applauded.
Sadly it got bogged down by an overlong stay on the mining planet and in the end a it's a bit of a wasted opportunity. It could have been a real sci fi classic. ... Read More
I quite liked Chronicles of Riddick there was some good stuff in it alright there was afew dodgy bits but but over all it was pretty good. I would like to see a couple more films as long as there done with a good director and a big budget. I wouldnt mind seeing a prequel to it all i think that would be pretty cool. ... Read More
Good news to me, I liked Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick and have been hoping for the sequel(s) for a while. Riddick is a cool character, Vin Diesel is a good action star despite a number of less than impressive efforts, but I'm still a fan of his. Bring them on. ... Read More
Really hope he gets at least one more film out of it...
...but I hope it takes after Pitch Black more than Riddick. Suddenly having a budget to play with seemed to blind them to what made the first film a classic, and left the film feeling so polished and bloated with special effects that all the soul had been lost. ... Read More
Just scale down the budget, up the grit, release it in the fall, and everyone is happy
There's nothing wrong in wanting to do more films with a character he enjoys. And truth being, Pitch Black wasn't a huge cinema success, it was a smaller budget, 23 million sci-fi film, so it didn't need huge numbers, Pitch Black found it's main audience on dvd. The same with Riddick, the directors cut was huge on dvd, now if Diesel gets to do more Riddick, they just need to fund the movie around 50-60 million or lesser, Riddick cost 105 million, and it was paired off against Spiderman 2 in the ... Screw Riddick, the sequels mistake was when it became about him, bring back the vampiric aliens of Pitch Black, it wasn't Vin the star, but those wonderful nasty creatures. ... Read More

It's nice to hear that a quite a few people were liking The Chronicles of Riddick. After reading Empire's review at the time I expected the worst, but I enjoyed Pitch Black so much I thought I'd give it a go. I did'nt think it was at all bad; the only real weak point(s) were the necromongers as bad guys. I did'nt think they carried much weight or as they say "gravitas". Apart from that though not bad at all. I watched Pitch Black in hi-def last night again( well worth the re-... Read More
