Affleck Signs On For New Mike Judge Pic Actor will star in Extract Source: Variety
Harvey and Bob may have gone, but Ben Affleck’s love affair with Miramax lives on.
Affleck The Elder has just signed on to star alongside Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis and Kristen Wiig in Mike Judge’s latest comedy, Extract – which is being bankrolled by, you guessed it, Miramax.
Affleck will play an ambulance-chasing lawyer in the movie, which is about a flower-extract plant owner (Bateman) enduring a hideous run of bad luck.
Colour us excited – Affleck and Bateman have worked together before, in one hilarious scene in Smokin’ Aces, and it’ll be interesting to see how they spark off each other in Judge’s latest. Certainly, Bateman can do no comedic wrong in our eyes, and Affleck has shown a proclivity for the funny in the past (remember his turn in Shakespeare In Love?).
It’s all part of the Affleck Comeback Special, that began with 2006’s Hollywoodland, continued with his directorial debut, Gone, Baby, Gone and will gather further momentum with his starring role in State Of Play, due out next year.
In other Extract news, Clifton Collins Jr. has also joined the cast of the movie, which begins filming on Monday in Los Angeles. He’ll play a factory worker who loses a body part in an accident and is due a huge settlement – presumably that’s where Affleck’s character comes in.
As we’ve said before about this project, we hope it works out for Judge, after Office Space and Idiocracy both undeservedly flopped. Cult status is all well and good, but one of these days he’s bound to make a comedy that people actually want to go see at the picturehouse. Perhaps Extract will be that movie.
It had many fantastic scenes, including the Cjief Justice being called Beef Supreme, and one of the best lines I've heard in a movie. Dumb Man "I like sex and I like money", second Dumb Man "I like sex, and I likemoney! We should become best friends" :) ... Read More
Office Space was great, though yeah did dry up on laughs towards the end. Idocracy had some moments that really made me laugh such as anything with the president but overall was weak.
Nothing will touch Beavis and Butt-head and King of the Hill. Two Classic shows right there.

Office Space is a hidden gem. However, Idiocracy was a rather poor film attempting to extend one joke to one and a half hours and failing more often than not. It quite deservedly flopped. Hopefully Judge has learnt from this and makes it a bit more substantial next time. ... Read More
As much as I love Mike Judge and in particular Office Space, i gotta say Idiocracy just didn't work for me. I can see where he was going with it but the end result was just flat out unfunny. Hopefully this will be a return to form for him. Colour me also excited. ... Read More
Office Space and Idiocracy both undeservedly flopped?
While Office Space is a really funny movie it does sag a bit towards the end and as for Idiocracy, its just not very good and most importantly not very funny.
But this does have a better cast than Idiocracy and I think that was one of the key problems with that film.
There is no doubting that Mike Judge has good ideas but maybe he should be selling the scripts instead of directing movies.
But the premise sounds interesting so maybe this will be the film where he gets it right.
