New Trailer For The Duchess
Keira Knightley corsets up again

New Trailer For The Duchess
A new trailer for The Duchess has turned up on the interweb super highstreet. You can either watch it below or, if that's not working, at this link.

The film sees Keira Knightley play Georgiana, 18th century Duchess of Devonshire. She was a woman loved by the people but mistreated by her husband (Ralph Fiennes) and criticised for her dabbling in politics. The film looks all very nice and sumptuous, but the pushing of the Princess Diana connection (the pair were distantly related) might be considered more than a little crass.

What do you think?

Oh dear
Keira Knightley making not the slightest effort to act in a film which, just when we all thought we might finally be free of the never-ending drivel about Diana Spencer, decides perhaps one last cheap attempt at publicity via some tenuous irrelevant link is in order. Eugh! The film looks awful, but being a sucker for period dramas I might have given it a look. The disgraceful publicity, however, means I wouldn't watch it if you paid me. I hope it bombs into obscurity before its even released... Read More

It looks half-decent, if somewhat convention: well-acted and all that. But I agree, the Diana angle is pretty awful. ... Read More

RE: diana?
I like Keira Knightley and I think that, given the right role, she can be a pretty top actress, so this could be fairly good. However, this distressingly crass trailer makes me less want to see the film. To be honest, I never really got the way Diana is held in such sentimental esteem by huge sections of the public, making out like she was some kind of brilliant, benevolent saintly figure. However, to exploit the death of anyone for a tenuous connection to try and sell a movie is pretty shamefu... Read More

History repeats itself? part 2
How can the events that happened first be repeating itself?! I hadn't been too impressed by this with the first trailer, but this latest one is actively off-putting. The images of Diana and title cards at the start are completely unnecessary and poorly judged. Audiences can see the crudely drawn comparisons themselves anyway throughout the rest of the trailer's footage without hammering it home like that. And Keira Knightley should really get a decent contemporary role under her belt somet... Read More

So the Duchess of Devonshire was killed in a carriage accident because she was driving too fast in order to escape paparazzi? Trying to cash-in on Diana is disgusting, I hope someone somewhere feels ashamed of themselves. ... Read More
