Seth Rogen Talks The Green Hornet

It’s been on and off more times than a faulty lightbulb but now, thanks to Seth Rogen’s rising star power, The Green Hornet finally looks likes it’s a goer.

Rogen spoke to ComingSoon.net about his plans for the self-penned action/comedy in which he will star as the eponymous righter of wrongdoings.

"Green Hornet is PG-13 and that's an action movie,” he said. “You can do anything violence wise. It's a very intense action movie and the relationship between Green Hornet and Kato (his loyal side-kick and sometime chauffeur), a lot of comedy comes from that.”

As for who will play Kato (the role originally played by Bruce Lee in the Sixties TV show), Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle’s Stephen Chow is apparently at the top of Rogen’s wish list.

“At first actually, we weren't even sure going in we could be more of a Jet Li type guy who maybe isn't the funniest guy in the world, but he's physically very impressive, or whether it would be more of a Stephen Chow type guy who can do martial arts, but clearly has a sense of humour,” said Rogen. “In the version that we've made it seems like a Stephen Chow type guy would be more suitable for the role.”

Rogen is writing the script with childhood friend and Superbad co-scribe Evan Goldberg and it’s looking likely to be his next project when all is wrapped on Judd Apatow’s untitled third directorial effort. In the meantime, and likely to be finished long before we actually get to see The Green Hornet, Rogen and Goldberg will be knocking out an episode of The Simpsons.

“We called The Simpsons and asked if we could write an episode,” said Rogen. “Evan actually met James L Brooks at a party and James said he really liked Superbad so we thought there’s our in.“

Their Simpsons script will be finished in the next few weeks and will most likely pop up in the next season of the hit animated show.

According to EW.com, The Green Hornet has been tentatively scheduled for a June 25, 2010 release.

Am I the only person in the world to think Rogen is over rated?40 Year Old Virgin was ok,as was Knocked Up(mildly amusing),but Superbad was just crude without being the least bit funny(and I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination!)! ... Read More

Drama lover
Nice to see such good comment. Seth Rogen is a reasonably likeable fellow with some entirely average credentials behind him. The fact that people like to go and see gentle comedy and they cost about a buck and a half to make (comparatively) sees this guy in the gulf of choose your project. Knocked Up was good-natured stuff but it was hardly genius and the star was Katherine Heigl, and Superbad was supremely overrated. I don't wish him ill but I hope that the hype fades as quickly as it is with t... Read More

Oh man
Why does this shit keep happening? Just because he's a fan of the character or the genre, dosn't mean he should write or star in it! I read it's got a 2010 release date...IT'LL TAKE HIM THAT LONG TO LOSE THE FAT IN HIS FACE!!! Remember Daredevil? the director of that was a HUGE fan and that was like getting kicked in your eyes nuts! ... Read More

RE: Rogen you Idiot!!
I really have to agree bronco3114, if DC are watching the current Marvel films with their "One Universe" idea running through it, then they should be looking to gear up a proper Green Lantern movie atleast...Green Lantern on the big screen could/should/would be astounding... as long as it's not Michael Bay's Green Lantern, Bret Ratner's Green Lantern or god...Paul W.S. Anderson's Green Lantern ... Read More

RE: DC Step Up
Green Hornet is very dated ...it reminds me of Billy Zane's "Phantom" film which was well made but a big flop 'cos no one could take the costume seriously! I know Green Hornet is not a DC/Marvel character ...but I hope that DC/Warner Bros move its lazy ass and develop Green Lantern, Legion of Superheroes and Teen Titans films . ... Read More
