Dirty Harry Will Not Return Clint calls it a day on the franchise
Clint Eastwood held a press conference in Cannes yesterday to support You Must Remember This, the documentary that he's narrated about the 85th anniversary of Warner Bros studios. While there he was asked – by our very own Chris Hewitt – if he'd be interested in reviving the Dirty Harry franchise, as has been rumoured for several months.
"I don't think the San Francisco Police Department would have a 77-year-old man on the police force," he laughed. "It would be highly unrealistic. People have asked me over the years 'would you like to revisit Dirty Harry?' But everything would depend on a script. But, really, no. There's a time to leave things alone."
As much as the idea of another Dirty Harry excites us, we can't help think that Clint's absolutely right. His career as a director is going rather well, with his latest film The Changeling getting some of the biggest raves of the Cannes Film Festival. And he's said he's all but given up acting, so why take the risk of sullying the memory of a beloved character? Let's just be thankful for the old movies and watch those.

I was really worried that they were going to make another dirty harry movie and it would have been like older actors thinking they can still continue doing films with action in it, like sly and harrison ford. I don't like the idea of a king conan movie. ... Read More
With him bringing his age up, how old was the late, great Charles Bronson when he did his last Family of Cops TVM? 78 I believe (possibly in his 80s if Michael Winner's correct). Of course, that's not a good example, as he was blatantly far too old to be a serving police officer. Hell, he only made the first of them four years earlier, and he looked a touch doddery even then. ... Read More
If an actor returns to a role after a long time, it's usually because they're trying to jump start their career. Eastwood isn't in that position. ... Read More
They should definitely do a new film. They can have Harry united with the rebellious, motorcycle riding son he never knew he had while battling crazy Russians who are tearing through San Francisco and having jokes made about his age. Get some monkeys in there somewhere too.

Dirty Harry: the sequel no-one asked for. Rocky, Rambo, Indy (which was fecking great!) - next? Conan the Barbarian with Arnie's 70 year old tits flopping about on the big screen?

Forget Dirty Harry - it sounds like Clint Eastwood rightly knows when to quit (shame the 5th film felt like a TV movie).
Hopefully, "King Conan" with Arnie will eventually get made (as he is the right age to play the character now). ... Read More

Good. Eastwood has always been a man of integrity and this is welcome news. No cash-in jobbie for Mr. Eastwood. If only Stallone had taken heed, without foisting the quite awful John Rambo on us. ... Read More
