Donnie Darko Sequel On The Way Wait...what? Source: Screen Daily
Why? That's all we want to know, why? Screen Daily says this morning that there is a sequel to Donnie Darko not just planned, but actually happening. If you haven't seen Donnie Darko then spoilers follow.
S. Darko will pick up seven years after the death of Donnie, with youngest Darko Samantha, now 18, and her best friend Corey being plagued by bizarre visions while on a roadtrip to Los Angeles.
Richard Kelly, director of Donnie Darko, is not involved in any official capacity and directing duties will instead be taken over by Chris Fisher (Nightstalker). Daveigh Chase, who played Samantha in Kelly's film, will reprise her role, and be joined by Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan and Justin Chatwin.
Again, we ask, why? If ever there were a film less demanding of a sequel, it's Donnie Darko. It tied its story up quite neatly, bringing it absolutely full circle. There were no loose ends. We don't even remember what Samantha did. Of course, a film can't be judged on quality until it's seen, but we fail to see the reason for a sequel's existence – other than, y'know, money.
We just have to treat this as completely seperate from Donnie Darko
To be honest, I am really looking foward to seeing this film. Why oh why!? one of the most iportant aspects of DD for me was the soundtrack, New Rave tunes at its best- Joy Division, Tears for Fears among the lot. And also the amazing tunes produced by Micahe Andrews. The whole 80's era feel to the film is made by the music.
Anyways.. S.Darko is set in what? mid 90's? Holy shit, does this mean Nirvana/Sonic Youth/Yo La Tengo/Queens of the Stone Age?
I suerly hope so... ... Read More
......then i don't mind the film being made. I can understand what they are trying to do by making a sequel, but as others have said and as empire has said why make a sequel when there are no loose ends. The film could work on many different levels. We could see that because donnie did die at the end of the first this has created a new disturbance in a tangent and has effected life in the future for his youngest sister who starts going through the same phase he once went through.

These days, with Platinum Dunes re-making every classic or iconic film ever, just be lucky they're doing a sequal and not a re-make. Mind you - give Michael Bay a few years and you never know what the greedy git will destroy next. All studios care about is money, we'll have to get used to it or boycott these films. ... Read More

It can only be bad, bad I say!!!!!
DD was a classic (well, maybe I wouldn't go that far) but to make a sequel when there is no need, is so wrong! As long as it doesn't try to explain what happened in the first one it might be ok... it can't be any worse than the directors cut... ... Read More
wha.. why...why?? just..no..i cant even begin to express how pissed off I am. who actually gave a damn about bloody samantha? Works of genius like Donnie Darko should be left well alone ... Read More
This is insane, the type of thing that makes me uite unfairly lose hope in the whole movie industry hy why why?! from the plot description it clearly has nothing to do with the original. And any attempt they make to explain why they are having the visions will only ruin everyone's own theories about the original film. who do they think are going to watch this? fans of the original will (hopefully) boycott it, and any new viewers who get excited by road-trip horror movies wi...
