Horror Classic Suspiria Being Remade David Gordon Green taking on Argento Source: MTV
Another day, another horror remake. But don't be so disheartened by this one, because this sounds interesting. David Gordon Green, director known for thinky intimate dramas like Undertow and Snow Angels, is planning to remake Dario Argento's Suspiria, he tells MTV.
"It doesn’t make a lick of sense,” Green told the site. “But it’s wicked. I love it, plot holes and everything...Suspiria is a classic for me,” he continued. “I want to be scared. I want to be afraid.”
Dario Argento's movie, still rated as one of the best and most disturbing horror movies ever made, followed an American student as she headed to Germany to attend prestigious dance school. When she gets there, she finds the school is not so much a 'school' as a 'home to a coven of witches', and there'll be a lot more panicking than pirohuetting.
Green says he wants to “get every geek that loves torture porn and every old lady in line to see ‘Phantom of the Opera’ to come and have this insane experience.” The torture porn aspect doesn't really interest us, because that's become a rapidly tiresome genre, but Green has a sensibility that could make for a different twist on this film. He's not a horror man; he's more interested in character. Remakes with interesting directors who might actually make a very different film, those we can get excited about. More of these please.

They'll really have to do something different here, as I can't see a straight giallo remake working. They better come up with some music as good as Goblin's original score too. I'm still sick of remakes though. ... Read More

Much of the film's charm is the Goblin soundtrack and the weird sometimes OTT Euro cast. I can't see this working without those but then Eli Roth did a half decent Italian horror pastiche in Hostel 2.
