Sarah Michelle Gellar is Still Alice
Buffy still plans on visiting Wonderland

Sarah Michelle Gellar is Still Alice

Despite rumours that she’s been dumped in favour of Lost’s Maggie Grace, Sarah Michelle Gellar insists she's still in pole position to play the title character in the movie adaptation of American McGee’s cult computer game, Alice.

One of a whole raft of Lewis Carroll adaptations in the offing (including a motion-capture 3D effort from Tim Burton, a family-friendly version with Dakota Fanning and what is sure to be a twisted nightmarish vision from Marilyn Manson), SMG’s punt sits on the darker side of the fence.

Talking to Radio Free, the former Buffy, said: “It's a passion project of mine. It's a story that I'd love to see. I'm fearful at this rate that I'm going to be the Queen of Hearts because I'm going to be too old to be Alice.

“It's something I'd really like to see done. And unfortunately, it was the victim of regime change in the studio. And I'm not getting out. And contrary to what you may have read, it's still my project.”

Still languishing in production hell, the story takes place ten years after Alice’s first encounter with the freaky denizens of Wonderland. She's spent time in an asylum, her home has been destroyed and her entire family killed. Returning to the world of Wonderland, she soon discovers that it has faired little better, becoming a dark and sinister image of the world we all remember.

There’s still no news on when (or, indeed, if) this project is likely to get off the ground but if we’ve got a choice between Sarah and Dakota, we reckon we’ll plump for the former.

Booooooooooooooo! Alice a) does not have an American accent, b) is about 18, c) has black hair, d) is incredibly f***ed-up in the game. You need someone who can play screwed up well, such as Christina Ricci (perfect choice Boomer!). SMG can't act - well, at all. If it's not an American High-School Teenager, SMG can't play it. Which is a pity, because a proper Alice movie could really be cool. And Jeremy Irons as the Cheshire Cat, please. ... Read More

Best bet for Alice has to be Christina Ricci. She just has that look (especially the slightly larger than normal eyes). ... Read More

The Age Change
"she looked to old to play buffy by the end of that imo" erm, you do know that the character of Buffy was meant to grow up as well, not stay sixteen forever. SMG has statutory written all over her body, she'll be able to pull this one off no problem. ... Read More

to old
i think shes too old, she looked to old to play buffy by the end of that imo. She's stilla good actress but wasnt alice like 11 or something? even if she's older in American McGee's version, I still rekkon shes a little over the hill for such a role. I have nothing against seeing her in other films thou just to make that clear. ... Read More

RE: Sarah Michelle Gellar is Still Alice
It would be nice to see SMG building on her success as Buffy, at this rate she will only be remembered for slaughtering vampires.  I really want to see her top the A list at some point, I think she could easily hold her own against the current queens of Hollywood.  And as nice as it has been for her to support smaller horror movies, I'd like to see her branch out.  This role would be nicely different, and given the source material (the game not the Lewis Carroll novel) this could... Read More
