Fight Club To Become A Musical?
And other David Fincher future projects
Source: MTV

Fight Club To Become A Musical?
In a pretty lengthy and rather interesting chat with David Fincher, MTV discussed a heap of projects potentially on the director's slate. Click here for the full interview.

The most surprising project discussed is an apparent plan to turn Fight Club into a stage musical. That would be Fight Club, the dystopian, none more testosterony film full of blood and violence. We've scanned the interview for any hint that he's joking, but he seems to be serious. Fincher says he wants to bring the musical to Broadway for the film's tenth anniversary in 2009*. We'd watch that in a second just for the space monkey chorus.

Fincher also says that he's flirted with the idea of director Chuck Palahniuk's Lullaby, the story of a journalist and a real estate agent investigating the source of a poem that can kill any who hear it. "I was pretty interested in Lullaby," Fincher says. "It almost has to be dumbed down a bit for it to work as a movie. I always love his writing. It cracks me up.”

Lullaby is one of Palahniuk's better books and would be perfectly suited to Fincher, but MTV's interviewer doesn't follow up on whether this idea is now dead or still a possibility. We'd love to see that one.

Fincher also updates on Rendezvous With Rama, a sci-fi project that has been discussed for roughly several billion years, give or take. Fincher says that the Arthur C Clarke story of an Earth space crew attempting to unlock the secrets of an alien spaceship in the 22nd century is still in the scripting stage. "When they’re happy with it, they’ll send it to me," he states. "It’s a project I’ve always loved. It’s probably technologically within striking distance right now. That was always the thing: You couldn’t afford to build these things as sets. It’s just too huge.”

Finally, Fincher says he's joining the 3D animation craze (trust us, kids, it's gonna be bigger than the hoola-hoop), with a series of films based on the comic book Heavy Metal. Please consider this your Fincher fill for the day.

*Fincher suggests that he's mentioned this idea before, so apologies if we're the only people who hadn't heard this news.

Do Rama dammit!
He's been talking about Rama for years. I'd love to see a Fincher sci-fi. (I know, I know Alien 3, and I'm one of the few who actually liked it, but that was more of a horror) And I'd love to see Rama on-screen. There was even talk of getting Morgan Freeman to star in it. What's not to like? Please, don't waste time on a musical Fight Club, and PLEASE, for the love of GOD, I implore Mr. Fincher not to go down the Zemeckis road of 3D animation. ... Read More

i think fincher is one of the best filmmakers in the world at the moment, zodiac was in my top 3 of the year and the curious case of benjamin button has been on my radar for as long as i can remember. tbh i dont think that a fincher backed fight club musical would be quite the same thing as the usual film-musical adaptation, just look at the critique of the subject matter for proof. if anything it will probably turn out to be hugely satirical, thats if hes been serious. ... Read More

Fight Club does not make sense as a musical, how could it possibly work? Would they make Taxi Driver the musical or the Godfather?
