Chatwin and Marsters Board Dragonball
Playing Goku and Piccolo

Chatwin and Marsters Board Dragonball
Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds) and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) have been cast in the lead roles for 20th Century Fox's upcoming movie based on the manga and cartoon series Dragon Ball created by Akira Toriyama.

Chatwin will play Goku, a warrior who protects the earth from assorted villainous types who want to take over the universe and harness the power of the titular mystically powered orbs.

Marsters takes the role of Piccolo, who, despite sharing a name with a tooty little whistle, is actually the villain of the piece.

We're far from Dragonball experts, but visually both are good choices. With a little hair gel Chatwin could easily do the wide-eyed, spike-headed Goku justice. And the man forever to be known as Spike possesses one the key element of Piccolo's appearance: scary cheekbones. He is, however, not green and lacks pointy ears.

The film will shoot later this month with Final Destination's James Wong behind the camera and Kung Fu Hustle's Stephen Chow producing. Let's hope that Chow brings some of the brilliantly bonkers action elements that he's given his own films. Lord knows this sounds mental enough to handle it.

RE: They look great for the roles...
ll look weird though, if they are going have chatwin in it he should do the work himself. Any way i want to see vegeta eventually come into it and not be the  character that gets killed off but a recurring one. ... Read More

They look great for the roles...
I agree with Olly, visually they are perfect, specially Chatwin for Goku, as long as he can get more muscles...no big deal...many other actors like late Christopher Reeve pumped iron to get a better body for his role in Superman...or maybe, they can add the muscle via CG...just ideas, in the end let's hope they make a nice movie... ... Read More

Think about it...
heres the bottom line folks, chris judge as piccolo, or tyrese gibson, if marsters is to be cast then wong needs to open his eyes and use him as vegeta! and justin needs to buff up and get the character, clear in his head ... Read More

why not use Kirby Morrow? He'll be a familiar face to some as Captain Dave Kleinman from stargate Atlantis, but he also did the voice of Goku for a far amount of the TV show and I meet him not so long ago in a bar in Belfast, and he is built like a brick S@#t house. He's perfect. let the campaign for Kirby begin!!! ... Read More

He looks like Goku in my view, but I always saw Goku as being a bit cheery and slighly annoying: his strength was in his blood, not being ridiculously big (well until the Saiyan saga). I'm interested in how various things will translate on screen. I don't expect the more corny looking elements, which just shows the differences between Americans and Japanese, but I wonder if they'll have Goku running around with a tail... ... Read More

RE: Chatwin and Marsters Board Dragonball Z
As mentioned above he looks too weedy to be Goku.   Goku has the build of a Van Damme not a nerd.   Anyhow I would far rather they made a movie of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball was  more for kids. ... Read More
