Wiseman Directing Escape From New York Die Hard 4 director takes the helm Source: Variety
There were rumours last week that the Escape From New York remake had found a director in Len Wiseman. And now 'tis true! Depending on your opinion of Die Hard 4.0, Wiseman's last job as director, your reaction to this news will likely be either a) That's awesome! Die Hard 4.0 rocked! Bruce Willis had a fight with a plane on a motorway! or b) That's awful! Die Hard 4.0 sucked! Bruce Willis had a fight with plane on a motorway!
The New Line movie seeks to revamp John Carpenter's 1981 original, in which Snake Plissken (bow down before Kurt Russell), an eye-patched war hero/convict, is sent into Manhattan, now a maximum security prison rather than Starbucks breeding ground, to rescue the US President after his plane is brought down by the criminal inhabitants. The new version has found its Snake Plissken in 300's Gerard Butler, who you have to agree is a pretty good choice when you need a badass.
So, is Wiseman fit to lick Carpenter's boots? He's got the commercial clout (Die Hard 4.0 took $335million worldwide) and knows how to blow crap up. But should anyone be raising Snake Plissken from retirement? Have at it, readers!

Its not broke, so why try & fix it? one word: Dollarz!!! Along with The Thing (classic! i watched last night) Escape from NY is probably one of Carpenters finest films, but making remakes of good films is just dumb! hollywood makes me sick sometimes. Next thing u know is that they wanna remake the Godfather!!
Dont know about the director. I havnt seen DH 4.0 yet, but the dude out of 300 could good enough to fill Kurts shoes. What bout Zack Snyder getting the Job?? He did a good job remakin... Read More
Let's face it. Hollywood is stumped for ideas these days so they remake everything. Nothing is sacred. A remake of Escape could actually be quite cool. Granted, Len Wiseman is a crap choice, Butler could actually be half decent. Of course, he will only be Geard Butler's version of Snake. Nothing more. There is only one Snake Plisken and that's Kurt Russell. In a dream world the new duo would pull off a Zack Snyder Dawn Of The Dead job! We wait.... ... Read More
Look, I like Gerad Butler - I'm sure he'll make a fine Snake, but please, finally, for the love of God, LEAVE JOHN CARPENTER CLASSICS THE HELL ALONE!!!!! ... Read More
Some remakes are good, Thomas Crown Affair, some are o.k.,Ocean's Eleven, and some are bloody awful, Planet of the Apes (seriously, when was the last time you watched it?) on the other hand some movies are remakes that don't even declare that they are remakes, Independence Day is War of the Worlds, and The Island is Logan's Run(I could go on but ya get the picture) Anyhoo, Escape from New York was already remade(huh? what? you gotta be kidding me?)Yep it was called Escape from L.A. and it really... The reason Snake Plissken is cool is 'cos Kurt Russell plays him. This is like getting someone else to play Indy or Travis Bickle. Len Wiseman is the new Michael Bay. Go crawl back into the fetid hole that spat you out! ... Read More
