Exclusive: Carrey Making Christmas Carol
Robert Zemeckis to direct

Exclusive: Carrey Making Christmas Carol
At last, slowest news day in the history of all that has ever been has picked up some space. So, thank you, Mr Bob Hoskins. During a recent chat, the world's favourite cockerney (even though he was born in Suffolk) revealed that Robert Zemeckis is working on another of his motion capture animation doodads, in the style of Polar Express and the upcoming Beowulf. And he's bringing one of the biggest stars in the world along with him.

"He's going to make A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey," Hoskins says of the director he previously worked with on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. "He wants me to play Mr Fezziwig. He's doing in that way he did Polar Express. You stand in a box with that funny suit on and it reads everything you do...Am I going to do it? Of course I am!"

There are no details on when the movie might shoot or which studio might fund it yet, though Zemeckis's previous two films using this technique have been under the Warner Bros banner.

god bless us, everyone
There is no defintive version of A Christmas Carol. They all vary in style and content, but the basic premise is so good, that thay all have merits. Muppets have a fantastic turn (possibly the best human performance in a muppet feature) by Michael Caine, Scrooged ups the ante by having Tiny Tim be an elective Mute, so when he does utter those words, Niagara Falls in my house. Scrooge has Alastair Sim being perfect. The Patrick Stewart Hallmark version is the closest to the short story. The ... Read More

Scrooged is class, but the muppet's verstion of Christmas Carol is easily the best. It captures victorian London so well (except the singing veg of course) and it's funny as well as some parts, quite spooky and it's all true to the story. AND it has some brilliant songs in it. I don't fancy this animated version Jim Carrey is in however even if it is a Robert Zemeckis picture. ... Read More

Not again
God, isnt there enough versions of this poxy story out there? And lets face it, the George C Scott version was possibly the best version made, with Blackadder Xmas special a close second. For Christs sake Jim, Ace Ventura 3 or something. Or I tell you what, try making a comedy!! You haven't done one of those in a while... ... Read More

Oh shut up, animation, live action, it's all techniques to tell a story. Now that I've flicked away the emos, I'm concerned about this, as A Christmas Carol is one of the most well know and told stories ever. We'll see: I'm a big Zemeckis and Carrey fan. ... Read More

Re: The Point
Think the point my be something like this...A Christmas Carol is a popular childrens story....children tend to like animated features...therefore it stands to reason that an animated Christmas Carol (be it CGI or otherwise) might appeal to children. The point would be to make such a feature in an attemtp to make money from it. ... Read More
