Sometimes, when the gloss and glare of summer’s blockbusters are too much for tired eyes, what you really want is a real change of the gears – something worthy, with perhaps just a touch of historical realism.
Production company Tagline is aiming to provide just that, hopping from big TV projects (such as hefty frontier tale Into The West) to the big screen for the first time. And their launch project? Adapting Timothy Egan’s 1930’s-set non-fiction tome The Worst Hard Time.
Kirk Ellis, who oversaw Into The West, will write the script for the film, which will drag its story from the tales of the people who stayed on America’s Great Plains after terrible dust storms tore through the land. Dodgy dealing types had convinced them that the land would be able to support farms again. Yes, it’ll be the feel-good film of whenever it gets made, just as soon as the film has a director and cast attached. |
