Whistle Down The Wind Review

Long before Hayley Mills was whisked off to California and Disneyfied, she made two fantastic Brit films that showed her preternatural acting talents - Tiger Bay and this underrated heartbreaker (which her mother, Mary Hayley Bell, wrote), set in Yorkshire’s wild farmlands.

Mills is a young girl who discovers a man (Alan Bates) in the barn who she believes to be a modern-day incarnation of Jesus. The man turns out to be a murderer on the run from police, but the symbolism of his pursuit and her need for faith only add to her conviction.
