Original Title:

War of the Buttons

An engaging debut from John Roberts, adapted by Colin Welland from a French hit of the 60s and transplanted to Eire, where an exuberant cast of kids play rival village gangs who mount elaborate battles in an ever-escalating feud. This is a sentimental view of children’s natures and concerns (as opposed to Lord Of The Flies’ savage vision), a picturesque, gently funny and frequently splendid rumpus.

Warm comedy, not as good as the original.
