Trouble in Store Review

A humble employee in a department store, Norman Pitkin (Wisdom) wants to be a window dresser but just can't stop falling over as he upsets his boss and has a run-in with shoplifter Rutherford, before getting his girl and rounding up some gangsters. Quintessentially British slapstick, this marked Wisdom's debut, making the vulnerable clown the successor to George Formby who, whether in the guise of shop assistant, odd job man (One Good Turn), flutterer (Just My Luck), soldier (The Square Peg), diminutive copper (On The Beat) or milkman (The Early Bird) - caused chaos, yelled "Mr. Grimsdale" but inevitably won hearts by simply being a lovable old duffer. In it's own way, really a bit of a classic.
