The epic romance which led to the construction of the world's greatest monument to love and loss becomes a suitably ambitious Bollywood extravaganza.
Not the upcoming Van Wilder spin-off starring Kal Penn, but India's most expensive production ever. A lavish spectacular even by Bollywood standards, Akbar Khan's 3-hour opus opens with the betrayal of a Mughal emperor (Kabi Bedi). Later, he recounts the story of his beloved Mumtaz Mahal (Sonya Jehan), in flashback, complete with Pierre et Gilles sheen.
As sumptuous and soapy as an emperor's bath, but only half as deep, yet may just be to the Taj Mahal what Titanic was to the titular tub.
