Yes, Chewbacca will appear in the Han Solo movie

We doubt that there were many people who thought that Chewbacca would somehow fail to figure into the Star Wars standalone about Han Solo's younger days. But now we have confirmation from Disney boss Bob Iger.

Speaking at what we're certain was a compelling, must-attend event, the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference, Iger dropped word of the solo Solo film when talking up Disney's plans for the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Quite what directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and writers Lawrence and Jon Kasdan have in mind for the earlier adventures of everyone's favorite space rogue and his furry pal is still frozen in carbonite for now. But whatever it is, they have a lot to live up to. And that's without mentioning the pressure to find someone who can embody a role that Harrison Ford has owned for decades. Though wish lists of actors have floated around, there has been no definite casting, so we're still waiting to find out who will take on that challenge.

And there will still be issues with exploring subjects such as how Han and Chewie met in the first place, a topic only touched upon in the expanded universe previously. However it happens might not live up to everyone's idea of the first encounter, but we'll stay hopeful in the creative team's ability to pull it off. The Solo film is scheduled to hit on May 25, 2018.
