As it was with the first entry, The Smurfs 2 is made 100 per cent for small children. There is no concession to adults having to accompany them, who will just have to run through their to-do list in their head or hope to slip into a brief nap. This time, Smurfette has been kidnapped by Gargamel (Azaria), now a famous illusionist, and whisked to Paris, followed by rescuing Smurfs. It’s very earnest and its jokes are easy, but this is efficient product with an admirably modern message. Smurfs 2 is likeable distraction, rather than a film with any ambition of being memorable.
