Sharky's Machine Review

Sharky is a narcotics cop in Atlanta who, while chasing a dealer, gets involved in a shootout that doesn't please the top brass...

A very ordinary cop picture, with Burt Reynolds well into his toupee phase as a grinning policeman who assembles a team of specialists to combat crime in his area.

Rachel Ward gives a splendidly idiotic performance in the role of a high-priced call girl who gets shot-gunned to death half-way through, cueing a later revelation which will only surprise those who haven't seen the remarkably similar Laura.

Henry Silva, as a coke-crazed hit man, provides a major dose of life with some extraordinary villainy, but director Reynolds has turned William Diehl's slick best seller into a by-the-book piece of mechanical filmmaking.

Reynolds was coasting at this point of his career, with zero risk-taking it ends up as a soulless, below-average movie.
