Scandal

Based on the 1963 affair between John Profumo, war minister, and exotic dancer-come-model Christine Keeler, and the tabloid uproar which ensued. There's nothing like a good Tory-With-His-Pants-Down story, and the Profumo Affair was the tabloid treat of the century.

This version of how "The Minister, The Model and The Russian Spy" came to rock early 60s Britain and brought down MacMillan's government provides little titilation, but John Hurt's sympathetic performance as The Establishment's scapegoat Stephen Ward makes for an effective second half...

Perhaps more relevant in 1989 when the Thatcher government still had it's hands around the neck of Britain, and Tory bashing was still something of a family sport. But if you're familiar with the scandal in question, this does an excellent job in unravelling what it was actually all about.
