We’ve had a teaser trailer. We’ve had a proper trailer. We’ve had a behind-the-scenes teaser reel. We’ve had a Struzan-esque poster. We’ve had, lest we forget, an Empire cover (or two). And now, with just over two months until release, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story earns itself a brand spanking new trailer.

The trailer finally offers our first proper look at Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso – aka Jyn's old man – seen in flashback, and gives a better sense of how he will fit into the story. He is "critical" to the building of the Death Star, according to Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly).

Felicity Jones, as we all know, lead the pack as rebel leader Jyn Erso, charged with stealing the plans for the Death Star from the Empire. Joining Jyn in the fight are Diego Luna's Captain Andor, Alan Tudyk on mo-cap duties as droid K-2SO, Forest Whitaker as the grizzled Saw Gerrera, Donnie Yen as the blind Chirrut Îmwe, Wen Jiang as Baze Malbus, and Riz Ahmed as the possibly-Point-Break-inspired Bodhi Rook.

On the Imperial side of things is cape afficianado Director Orson Krennic, played by Ben Mendelsohn, plus an appearance from a certain Mr D. Vader (née Skywalker).

Directed by Britain's Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be out on 16 December. While away the hours between now and then by reading our complete guide to Rogue One. And keep your eyes – or rather, your ears – peeled for an interview with Rogue One star Felicity Jones on this week’s Empire Podcast.
