**Robot Overlords **took over our cinema screens back in March and now, according to the film’s director Jon Wright, the malignant mechanicals have their beady laser eyes on our tellies. Yes, they’re targeting a small screen spin-off{ =nofollow}.

Wright announced the news at the MCM London Comic Con, with word that Tony Wood (a veteran of Coronation Street among other things) will oversee the new show for Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford’s Tempo Productions, who were behind the film in the first place. “This series will really expand the canvas of the robot occupation and we are aiming to make an explosive show that the UK will be very proud of.”

Though the film had Gillian Anderson, Ben Kingsley, Callan McAuliffe, James Tarpey and Ella Hunt among its cast, the show will boast a new ensemble and might also march on to TV under a different name. According to wood, we can expect something in the vein of Doctor Who and Quatermass, which bodes well, though we also hope Wright, who brought the world Grabbers before the Overlords arrived, will have plenty of input too. The film, meanwhile, is plotting to take over your home entertainment system from August 10.
