The winner of seven Oscars including Best Picture, Director, Screenplay for Francis Ford Coppola and Edmund H. North, and Best Actor (famously turned down by Scott who despises the principle of acting prizes), this still holds up as a remarkably intelligent and illuminating biography of a warrior.
Scott is simply awesome as the one-of-a-kind General George Patton, the brilliant campaigner and man among men renowned for the rage he directed at the berks in authority and the adulation he inspired in his men. The device of him addressing the camera as if the viewer is one of the troops is electrifying as we are treated to unforgettable pre-battle pep-talks, along the lines of, "When you put your hand into a bunch of goo that a moment before was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do."
