OSS 117: Cairo Nest of Spies

Infinitely superior to Get Smart, this ’50s spy spoof deconstructs the myth of Jean Bruce’s indestructible agent, who has featured in 265 novels and seven movies since his debut in 1949. Jean Dujardin plays the spy with a mix of vacuous suavity and condescension that makes his investigation of the murder of a comrade all the more hilariously inept.

Plenty of mileage is derived from Dujardin’s dismissal of everything Arab, Michel Hazanavicius also throws in some supremely silly running gags, while keeping the plot moving at a clip and establishing a rapport between the hapless hero and his insouciant
